Urban Ideals Empowered by Design Energy

On September 24th, 2023, the "Xiongan Design Forum" of the Hebei International Industrial Design Week was held at the Xiongan Convention and Exhibition Center. Zhang Guohua, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Working Committee, and Director of the Management Committee of Xiong'an New Area, attended the event. The forum was hosted by Tian Xuebin, member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Hebei University of Economics and Business, as well as Executive Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Regional Development. Yu Guoyi, member of the Party Working Committee of Xiongan New Area and Deputy Director of the Management Committee, delivered the opening speech, and Feng Changhong, Director of Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center, gave the keynote speech. Over a hundred participants, including Wang Jiping, Deputy Director of the Provincial Committee's Xiongan Office, member of the Party Working Committee of Xiongan New Area, and Director of the Party and Government Office, Song Xiangdang, member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, Liu Yunxin, Second Inspector of the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, as well as domestic and foreign business leaders, technology elites, design scholars, and emerging figures attended the event.

The forum focused on the theme "Urban Ideals Empowered by Design Energy," employing keynote speeches and roundtable dialogues with over 20 Chinese and international experts to discuss new visions for future development. Utilizing a combination of offline auditorium sessions and online live streaming, employing modern information technologies such as 5G, VR, AR, and big data, the forum aimed to convey captivating moments to a global audience, enabling everyone to virtually come together and experience the pinnacle of design dialogues.

Yu Guoyi stated that urban ideals serve as the starting point for urban planning and represent residents' perception of happiness in urban development. Design, as a creative activity, injects new vitality into urban development by transforming urban ideals into reality. Xiong'an New Area serves as a model city for regional collaboration, a future-oriented city empowered by design, and a green city driven by digital technologies. He hoped that designers would bring their creativity and excellent designs to create magnificent scenes in this innovative and entrepreneurial land of Xiongan.

In her keynote speech titled "Connecting the Dazzling History with Design, Illuminating the Xiongan Starry Sky," Feng Changhong emphasized the role of every individual involved in the construction of this land as "creators" knitting the history of Xiongan. She underscored the significance of top-level design, innovative thinking, design philosophy, smart technology, and social responsibility in the positive development of a city.

During the forum section "Design in Action: Building Xiongan's New Magnetism," founders and representatives from various entities such as Andrea Ponti, Founder of Ponti Design Studio, Li Ang, Head of the Northern China region at the Royal Institute of British Architects, Tian Hong, Director of Gensler Beijing Architectural Studio, Liu Hengfu, Executive Chairman of the International Ice and Snow Art Olympics, Qiu Xinxian, Director of the Design Department at Harbin Institute of Technology, Song Yang, Founder of SUPA RARE, and Qiao Hua, Associate Partner at Hain Architecture, delivered keynote speeches and engaged in dialogues.

In the section "Design in Exploration: Painting the City's Concentric Circles Together," speakers including Sun Naifei, Associate Director at SOM, Li Yan, Design Director at Broadway Malyan, Qu Keming, Chief Designer at WSP, Zhang Qilin, Chief Architect at goa Elephant Design, Sun Haizhen, Deputy Secretary-General of Beijing Guanghua Design Development Foundation, and Tian Yanjian, President of Hebei Province Sign Industry Association, presented keynote speeches and participated in discussions.

The section "Design in Practice: Exploring Smart New Cities" featured presentations and dialogues by industry experts such as Cai Zherli, Senior Architect at MVRDV Asia, Xue Yi, Director of Digital Creativity and Intelligent Design Research Center at Nankai University, Feng Lei, General Manager of the Innovation Platform Department of Baidu Intelligent Cloud Metaverse, Qiu Xinxian, Director of the Design Department at Harbin Institute of Technology, Li Yana, Secretary-General of Chengdu Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, and Huang Jianzhao, Director of Digitalization at the Green Building Design Institute of China Architecture Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd.
