Institute of Industrial Design, Shandong University was founded in 2010. It is a university‑level research institute integrating teaching, research and social services, and also one of Shandong’s first‑batch Industrial Design Centers.

Integrating multiple disciplines including design, mechanics, materials and art, it gives full play to disciplinary strengths and facilitates interdisciplinary integration. Its core team consists of distinguished scholars in the field of industrial design. In the past three years, the team has published more than 30 SCI papers and filed over 50 patents.

With a well‑structured team, the institute has established partnerships with domestic institutions such as Beihang University, China National Institute of Standardization and National Rehabilitation Center. It also carries out joint research with overseas universities including Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
