There is a magical country—Britain, a country of contradiction, as people claim it.

Unconsciously, they infuse such contradictory character into their design, composing an unique British style.

While “small” items are the obsession of British designers, “large” ones find favor with them as well. They turn autos into light mini cars, passing through streets across the Britain. You may also see double-deck buses to carry the excessive passenger flows;

They can cut playful miniskirts that are popular all over the world to liberate women from layers of wrapping; they can also create calm and restrained windbreakers, making it a must-have style in every fashionista's wardrobe. Like the weather in the UK, you will never figure out which one they love the most, but fortunately, whether it is windy, rainy or sunny, the scenery on the island is still beautiful!

It’s a pity that you can’t come to learn about this interesting country in person under the epidemic. Don’t sigh. The Hebei International Industrial Design Week 2021 invites the United Kingdom as the partner country to satisfy the tastes of men and women, old and young, allowing you to see the most authentic British design up close.

The Modest Luxury of Aston Martin

When Aston Martin came to our attention in the 007 movie, it was always a good friend of Bond. When the mission is urgent, it became a superman, waterproof, fireproof and anti-collision, and hit the enemy steadily; when Bond chasing girls, it became a gentle and warm man, comfortable, beautiful and cool, which shocks every beauty.

Since its establishment, Aston Martin has pursued a sense of beauty that is in harmony with nature. The most prominent manifestation is the design ratio of the 0.618 golden ratio that has been emphasized and is the most classic aesthetic theory, which has been demonstrated in many places.

Many customers pay much attention to the appearance of the car and ignore the interior of the car, but in fact the interior is the part where car owner spend the most time. Aston Martin insists on hand-made interiors, which not only incorporates the hard work of British craftsmen, but more importantly, through the process of repeated experience with both hands, it can bring the interiors the inspiration and temperature that customers need to sit in the car.

The colors, materials, touch feelings of the interior, including the speed of aging, etc., are the perfect combination of every detail to achieve a classic. For example, the quilting and block details on the DB11 seat derived from the traditional shoe industry have a wonderful chemical reaction with the car.

Aston Martin had its own perseverance in the industrialized era. Other luxury cars are rapidly expanding the market, but it chooses to slow down. Until now, Chinese people who want to buy it need to order from the UK. The vehicles are not only expensive, but also reserved. Many models can't be bought with money. If you want to own it, you must have speed, connections, and wealth. See if you those are what you are thinking:

This is what i wont get in my whole life.

How come? Everyone should have a dream. What if that dream comes true?

Here comes the opportunity!

Aston Martin brought the latest concept vehicle model to the Hebei International Industrial Design Week 2021, right in Hebei, right in Xiong’an, right at the doorstep of your home. This may be the closest you and Aston Martin will be.

The Earnest and Lively University of Nottingham Ningbo

Speaking of renowned universities and colleges in the U.K., you can find a lot here, such as Oxford, Cambridge and Hogwarts of course, differing from each other with profound historic foundation, diligent students or flying brooms which have broken the dimension walls.

University of Nottingham resembles not likely with the above-mentioned universities and colleges. It is known not only because of its prudent and lively scientific research and academy, but also its art achievements. Djanogly Art Gallery, Djanogly Show Hall and Angear Tourist Center through whose window you can see works from local artists lie in the Lakeside Arts Center. You can also find the newly opened D.H. Lawrence Exhibition Hall here.

In the Hebei International Industrial Design Week 2021design works by excellent students from University of Nottingham Ningbo will be on the show. Paying attention to the development of the social contact in the post-pandemic era, attaching importance to the population aging problems and improving our living environment as their mission, each of those work conveys an earnest and lively, prudent and romantic attitude. Students from University of Nottingham infuse the British “contradiction” into their blood and they find a balanced way to express themself, which is exactly the development direction of the future design in such a turbulent society.

A link connecting the current and the future

Michael Young Studio

Predicting the future is a super power that everyone wants to have. This is why many marketing accounts are still keen to interpret the The Great Prophecies of China.

But is future that easy to be predicted?

In the HIDW, Michael Young studio of Britain will use design to answer this question.

With the theme of "Harvest Futurescape: Designing to Create an Era" in the exhibition area of Michael Young's studio, it arouses the awareness of sustainability and reflects on design responsibilities under the global epidemic. They used the word "harvest" to highlight the Xiongan model created with nature, and used "future" to emphasize that current work is not only for the present, but more importantly, to lay a good foundation for future development.

This is not the first time that Michael Young has used an exhibition to arouse people’s attention to future design. The MYS exhibition area in HIDC2020 was themed as "Designs Construct of Pluriversality", and unfold three topics, namely futures manufacturing, rebirth of craftsmanship, and city catalyst, focusing on technology, industrial products and urban design and utilizing the elements of environment, nature, environmental protection and ecology to display the future innovative design works in the fields of interaction, city, society, and biology.

Michael has been deeply involved in the design and art world for 25 years, and he has unique insights into both: "Design fascinates me not just to create limited edition works, but because it can reach the scale of mass production. Design is the reflection of art in industrial production."

As Kenya Hara said in Designing Design, “Design is a port of information transmission, and the designer seems to be the watchman standing in this port. Michael Young Studio is like a watchman standing on the port of the times, showing us a broad future

In addition to the above-mentioned exhibitors in the British Partner Country Exhibition Area, there are more than 20 design institutions and companies including Pearson Group, studio 8FOLD Ltd., UnionSquare, etc. to make the Exhibition a fabulous one.

Design Sharing

After watching the excellent British design products in Design Week, the audience can also participate in a design culture feast.

The China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the British Embassy in China will jointly hold an event themed "Building a Caring and Inclusive Future City-Sharing the Best Cases of Barrier-Free Environment Design" in Xiongan New Area. They will directly meet with special social groups and discuss how barrier-free design can build a caring and inclusive future city.

Currently, Mackey McKeely, Project Director of Chapman Taylor company, Atlas CHAN (Chen Minyang), Vice Chairman/Planning Director of Arup Engineering Consulting Company (China) , Ary Zhao (Zhao Geping), Business Head of China in BRE British Architectural Research Institute, Lu Shiming, vice chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, and Zhang Li, Dean of the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University are invited as guests of the event. Starting from the perspective of design, they will make a profound interpretation of the construction of a humane city, bringing a British rational and emotional design sharing event.

The guests sharing at the event will also have a dialogue with two Chinese design institutions. They will communicate and exchange on different styles of design between the two countries, build an open and transparent communication platform for Chinese and British designers and companies, and create a development path for

social harmony for China and even for Hebei.

This world is like this, full of contradictions. If you can find a right balance, then you will win. The "contradictory" Britain has found its own design balance through design practice again and again, and used design methods to solve problems. The development of Chinese society is also full of various contradictions. We might as well learn from Britain. Since the contradictions cannot be completely eliminated, let's live in harmony!
