Irem is a researcher specializing in new materials and methodologies. Her background is in textiles, having graduated from Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design. After spending her formative years between Istanbul, Dusseldorf, Singapore and Shanghai, she worked in London as a textile designer-maker and later joined one of Asia’s largest new material libraries, MateriO Shanghai, as a librarian, curator and Chief Researcher in the Department of Material & Design. Today, she works under her own research studio Re:mtr (short for rethink material), as well as prat of Hyloh’s collaborator network. She is driven by material stories and living systems thinking, and enjoys raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and exploring tools aid more responsible and inspired material selection.
